I tweeted about this earlier, but I’m including some more info:
Happy to share that two of my “The Occultist” covers (issue 2 & 3) have been selected for inclusion in the Spectrum 21 art book, which is available for pre-order here. In this second volume I wanted to creatively let loose, and I’m glad Dark Horse went along for the ride.

Digital sketch 28”x 22” for series Locomoticon – “Nacel.”
A digital sketch from 2012. I’m not sure how much of it I’ll translate into paint…I don’t like to doggedly stick with a sketch/plan as I paint. I prefer to let the act of painting, sometimes, direct the process.

Digital sketch 14”x18” for series, Sphinx I — “Somnambulist I.”
I think I’ll end up doing a few versions of this, since I liked some of the variations that were happening during the sketching process.

This is part of the self portrait I’m currently working on. The head is life size. The weather hasn’t been cooperating, so I’ve been spending more time working on the left side of my face, and will pick back up on the right side when I have stronger light from the window. Winsor & Newton glazing medium has proven to be very useful for blending and tinting…far better than using water, or regular medium.I made a minor wrong-turn a few days ago when I impulively decided to dramatically change the lighting. An hour into darkening the left side of my face, I realized a made a mistake, and spent the rest of the day repainting and reclaiming what I had covered up.I wasn’t originally sure I was going to render this level of detail, but it’s in my nature, and this time around decided not to fight it.
